IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR SCHOOL EACH DAY
*Backpack: Students should have all the necessary school supplies at school each day. Please check with your child frequently to find out if there is any supplies that they may need replenished such as pencils, colored pencils, markers, rulers, glue, erasers, etc. To keep you informed on what supplies your child may need replenished, I will also have your child write a note in their daily planner as a reminder.
*Snack and water bottle: Snack and water bottles are optional but recommended, especially water bottles at the beginning and ending months of our school year when it can be very hot outside! Please note that school snacks are recommended and should be a healthy treat such as, fresh fruit, cut up veggies, cheese, crackers, peanut butter, granola bars, and/or popcorn. Please avoid snacks that leave hands messy such as cheesy, spicy, Cheetos/Doritos.
*Red daily homework folder: Needed at school Monday-Friday and will be used to take homework and school mail back and forth from school to home. Important school mail will be sent home with the students on Thursday's. Please keep school mail at home so red folders remain as uncluttered as possible.
In a plastic pocket of the red daily folder there is a yellow behavior expectation chart. This chart is used to record your child's school behavior goals during the week. The chart will indicate goals meet and goals your child needs to improve on in the classroom or in other areas of our school. Parent signatures are required on this sheet for each previous week and should be signed over the weekend. I will check expectation charts for parent signatures on Monday of each week or the first returning school day after a holiday.
*Completed homework for the week consists of:
Reading log; Spelling; Grammar
Reading log homework is given on Monday and is due on the following Monday. Reading homework typically consists of a Reading log with 140 minutes of nightly reading completed for the week. Parent signatures are required on your child's reading log to confirm the minutes read.
A reading test is given on Friday's over our focused story of the week. Your child will be able to access their reading basal reader online. Over the coming days, I will be giving your child their own personal log in that they can use to access their book. They will be able to read the story or listen to the weekly story as many times as they like during the week. This will help your child to be successful on Friday's reading test.
Spelling= Usually one activity sheet/night on Monday's through Thursday's. On Thursday's there is typical two spelling homework sheets. A spelling test is given in class every Friday.
Grammar,= Usually a short revising and editing worksheet, given Monday through Friday. The grammar should be completed on a sheet of notebook paper. This can be given as a homework assignment OR a classwork.
Please note: As we get closer to STAAR testing in March for Writing and May for Reading, the homework may include STAAR practice activities related to STAAR formatted testing.
*Student Planner: The planner will be written in daily by your child. All homework assignments. school events, and occasionally important notes from Mrs. Alonzo will be written in the planner. Parents: Please remember to sign the planner each day so that I am assured that you are aware of the homework that is due and have received the daily mail, possible teacher notes, and any forms that need to be returned to me...this is very much appreciated. Thank you!
