3. One of the most exciting events of the school year will be our fourth grade musical presentation on Thursday, Octover 26, 2016. There will be two performances, one at 8:15 and another at 9:15. The performances will last about thirty minutes.
TRICK-0R-TREAT FOR UNICEF COIN DRIVE BOXES WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO ALL THE STUDENTS BEFORE HALLOWEEN.
NOTE ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING MULTIPLICATION FACTS 0-12 ASAP1. Parents, to support Mrs. Chedsey's math class, please work with your child on memorizing their multiplication facts from 0 to 12. During math instruction, your child will soon begin multiplying two digit factors by one digit factors. Eventually, the the math instruction will move into two digit by two digit factors and then on into division. For fact memorization, multiplication flash cards work very well, and can be purchased at many stores such as HEB/Target/Walmart/Barnes & Nobles etc....they are very easy to use. Students should practice memorizing facts for about 10 to 15 minutes each day until they become proficient & fluent through facts 12.
As we move through the days in this nine weeks, we will continue our learning with focus on the following:
Reading:
It is all about Poetry, Nonfiction, reading this month. Students will be analyzing, making inferences, and drawing conclusions about expository text and providing evidence to support their conclusions. The five organizational elements of nonfiction text will be covered: Problem/Solution; Description; Compare/Contrast; Cause & Effect; and Chronological/Sequencing. Students will be reading and organizing articles from Time for Kids magazines on graphic organizers.
Writing:
We are finishing and publishing a five paragraph expository composition on what makes Oak Hill Elementary so special. We are also writing historical fiction stories related to living during the Archaic Ice Age period in Texas history. Students are writing about life as a PaleoAmerican.
Social Studies:
Texas are learning about: Regions of Texas/Climate/Landforms/Animals & Plants. We are also studying early Native American tribal groups of Texas.
