HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Happy New Year & Welcome Back to School on January 3, 2018!!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful holiday with family and friends. I am looking forward to continuing on with our school year.
BENCHMARK TESTING FOR MATH AND READING WILL OCCUR DURING THIS MONTH. THE DATE WILL BE ANNOUNCED ONCE IT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR OUR CAMPUS. On these testing days, please make sure your child goes to bed early the night before a benchmark test and eats a healthy breakfast the day of the test. Please have your child bring water and a healthy snack on these important testing days.
MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. SCHOOL HOLIDAY IS ON JANUARY 15, 2017.
In January, we will be working on the following topics:
1. Reading: The theme for our reading stories in January is "Keeping Promises". The stories we will read in our Treasures basal reader will relate to the character trait of trustworthiness. We will also continue reading our weekly TFK and our monthly National Geographic magazine. Texas History expository text reading will also continue to be incorporated into our daily reading block. Small group Literature Circles will be held on Tuesday's-Friday's for 45 minutes.
2. Writing: We will continue are mini lesson instruction on writing conclusions and introductions. In addition, we will be working as well on our Marko the Pencil writer's handbook which focuses on characteristics of a well written essay (exciting leads, alliteration, metaphors, onomatopeia, proper pronouns, strong conclusions, colorful words and just right conventions. We will also continue to work on our Daily Language Review which focuses on various language mechanic skills.
3. In Social Studies, we will be reading & discussing the time period when Texas under Mexican rule. This will lead us into the Texas Revolution (1835-1836) and Texas as an independent nation.
As you can tell, we will be very busy in our classroom this month.

Just a reminder that report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, January ___4__ for the second/nine week reporting period. Please make sure to sign the report card envelope and have your child return it back to school by Friday, January 6th. WELCOME BACK TO 2017!!!
