1. This month we will begin to prepare for the Reading and Math STAAR tests that are scheduled during the month of May.
STAAR testing will be scheduled as follows:
Reading May 9, and Math May 8, 2017.
As we move through the days in this fourth nine weeks, we will continue our learning with focus on the following:
1.Reading:
We will practice reading STAAR based stories and use TARGET strategies taught to answer questions related to each story.
2. Writing:
Our focus this month will be on writing poetry. We will be creating diamantes, quatrains, acrostics, haikus, lanturnes, limericks, tankas, cinquains, shape poetry and many other poetry forms. Our fourth grade netbooks will be used by the students to generate some unique and personalized poems as well. Each student is creating their own book of their favorite poems.
3. Social Studies:
In Social Studies we will continue our journey through Texas History. We will be learning about the early years of Texas statehood (1846-1861), the Civil War and Reconstruction period (1860-1874), Texas life at the turn of the century, the discovery of oil at Spindle top in 1901, and into the current events of modern-day Texas.
